Yup, you heard it correctly, we are taking it back old school and linking up with Amber, Stephanie and Amanda to tell you why, how on earth I came up with my blog name!
Well, if you have been reading my blog for anytime now, you know a few things about me: I am blonde (well naturally, not at the moment though because remember that time I decided to go dark?); a lawyer, and former pageant queen. Naturally when I decided to blog I thought well I could go Elle Woods since I have been likened to her a lot. But actually, my first blog, which lasted only a hot minute was called "Young, Married, Professional?" I had just gotten married and was about to start my first lawyer girl job. But hubs was not so much a fan. So I quit blogging for a while.
Fast forward to starting my job. I realized the experiences I was going through were unique, funny, stressful and my friends and family wanted to hear about it. Mostly my lawyer friends lamented. So I decided to start again. This time I went the lawyer route and Illegally Blonde was born!
While I mostly blogged about being a young lawyer, I have also taken on life, fashion, cooking, random thoughts and everything else in between. I still blog about being a lawyer, but I have to edit myself sometimes so I ya know, still have said job in the morning! JK. My job is just like any other lawyer for the most part, we worry over every 6 minutes, we strive for perfection, labor over one word, go down rabbit trails, work on the weekends yada yada.... But I am blessed that although I may not love what I do every day, I love who I do it with every day (for the most part). I have great co-workers! So enough about my blog name, let's hear about yours!
This blog post is being brought to your courtesy of no sleep! Yes, I think I perhaps got 2-3 hours of shut eye. Between the train (yes I literally live practically on the rail yard), the restless dog, my wild imagination and oh did I mention the sore throat?
Yes, I'm not sure whether its exhaustion, the weather (from 70 - 20 in 24 hours) or that I'm actually getting sick, either way it must go away! So what do I do, what any other sick woman would do, I got up at 5am, got in a short workout, showered, put chicken noodle soup in the crockpot and went to work. Most of you are screaming, stay in bed! Get some rest! My head screams, bill hours! Get stuff done! Look busy, and oh today is chili lunch at work...
I have such a sense of loyalty to my job. Rain, sleet, ice (literally), sickness, health ( I feel like I'm exchanging vows with it!) Yes, I think I may be slightly married to my job. I mean I do spend like 10 hours a day here, share my life with the people I work with, eat, sleep (yes sleep) and breathe it. Vacation, sure, only if I can take work with me? It's sad. I went to happy hour with some new attorney friends and they are still bright-eyed and busy-tailed about this profession. Me, so jaded after only 2 years. I griped as they were awed by the things they do. They still think any new project is awesome and have not felt the pressure of billables or collections. So young!
And the weather (told you this was no sleep induced). Get it together Mother Nature! Winter, spring? figure it out already. My closet would like to know which wardrobe to house at the moment and not be in limbo anymore. My tongue wants to know whether it needs iced frap or hot latte! Turtleneck today, tank tomorrow? It's ridiculous!
Ok, so enough of my rant. If you need me I will be immersed in some sort of task involving residence premises!
Oh How I've missed you!!! However, taking a small bloggy break is often needed. I think its easy for us to forget that all the blogs we read each day belong to real people, with real lives, jobs, families, issues. We all get used to blogging and feel obligated to post so as not to lose our friends or followers. But, that would not be a good blogger friend, and my posts would be just awful if I just threw some crap up here and expected ya'll to keep coming back. So, here's the short, sweet of my life at the moment.
1. I've moved back to Ft Worth, yup, goodbye suburbs, hello home sweet Cowtown!
2. Adjusting to apartment living has its ups and downs, and my poor Chloe has not quite adjusted.
3. I am working on myself. Yup, I know! Figuring out what I like, what I want, living in the moment, for the moment.
4. I am exploring my spirituality and getting right with the man upstairs. Its amazing how He knows what you need when you need it and is there to provide.
5. I am swamped at work (because other attorneys are in trial mode and thus I'm in get all the other stuff done mode)
6. I have seen two movies as of late! (Yup, I've gotten out of the house people, sound the alarm!)
7. Uber excited for our annual Girls' Weekend trip which is like 45ish days away! Wine, sun, and my girlies, what more can I ask for?
And in other news, Thank you for all of you who have reached out to me, shown me true friendship and provided nothing but love and support in the last couple weeks. The road ahead may be uncertain, but the ride sure is fun!
1. I hate way too much this week! A smidge here and a smidge there adds up to more than smidge around the waist!
2. I've already cheated on Lent. But back on track today, Right?
3. I need to take a blogging break. Forgive me now if I am not here everyday giving you the dish on my life, but promise to be back at some point. Meanwhile, I will be reading all of your lovely posts and keeping up with you.
Ahh Wednesday, mid-week meaning the end is near (the weekend I mean... not Apocalypse). So here is what I am loving this week:
1. New Glasses I got from Firmoo! I was totally reading Jessica's blog where she was sporting her specs and decided I needed new ones and something totally different and cute.
2. Renewing my walk with Christ and living a more purposeful life.
3. Great friends! I just did not know how blessed I was until I went through hardship. My friends have poured out in droves to love and support me. They have shown me the beauty of friendship and I just want to say thank you to all of them! Even those from Blogworld! Love you LM, P!nky and Jessica!
4. This awesome giveaway from Page 22, one of my favorite blogs! Hope on over to Shannon's blog and get in on this amazing op!
5. Lent! Yes I know seems odd that I am loving Lent, but today is Ash Wednesday and thus the beginning of the Lenten season. This is a time for us to reflect on Jesus' sacrifice for us. Whether you are Catholic, Methodist or just a believer in Christ, use this time to prepare yourself to let Him into your life.
But seriously, the last thing I needed at 4am was this nasty recurring dream I have. Scene set:
I am running (hello chase) from a stranger (used to be grim reaper) down a long hallway while being watched by people I know and love (though after the dream I have my doubts as not one of you jumped in to save me...) and the hallway never ends. (Note: sometimes I am carrying a baby in this dream but not last night). I awake when I see a face and yell "No!" To which I am then literally awake yelling no and the dog is jumping up barking and all holy heck breaks out.
Yeah, yeah I know chase dream running from fear, stress, etc... people you love.... I've read, Ive interpreted... I've acknowledged my dreams me things, but a wish my heart makes? Come on Cinderella! Those little birdies lied to you.
Dreams have so much meaning and symbolism packed inside (wow the mind is a terribly scary thing). Our subsconcious' way of giving us a not so subtle hint (more like a swift kick in the behind). So there I lay at 4am with dog now on high alert, rain pounding (along with my heart) and I'm exhausted. Score one for no sleep me!
So, now it does not help that its still raining outside and Id rather be curled up in bed with said barking dog and enjoy hot tea and a nap. But I digress. Do you all have any recurring dreams? How do you interpret them? Do you see them as signs or just our imaginations on fire?
I have done a lot of this lately. Listening. I have listened to my family, friends, counselor, head, and heart. I have listened to everyone, but myself. Sometimes you turn off the voice inside your head that knows you best. Sometimes its easier to turn outward than reflect inside and listen to what you need. I have also not listened to Him. So, basically, I have turned off the two voices that know me the best. Well, after many long runs early in the morning and thoughtful self-reflection I have found my voice. It is not always loud, sometimes I have to sit quietly and be still to hear it, but its there--buried beneath work and obligation hides my voice.
Today is a new beginning. It marks the end of the era where I sit idly by and wait for the world to turn around me. No longer will I cast aside my needs for someone else. I will not be led by obligation, but by love. I will sing a new song, begin a new chapter, heck I may even start writing the new book of my life.
I have been criticized a little by people for suddenly becoming Godly or for sharing my faith via facebook, twitter, and even here on this blog. So, if you do not like what I have to say, don't listen, or read. If you do not want to hear my message, don't follow me. If you have cruel words, do not comment. I do not judge you, so don't judge me. This is my blog, my thoughts, my life--no one asked those of you who chose to be negative to weigh in.
Yes, I am beginning a new journey. The road is sure to be bumpy, but support me, don't judge me. Raise me up, don't use harsh words. I promise the blog will not be all God and no fun, but I am choosing to let Him back into my life so that I can live a more fulfilled life. Like it or leave it!
Meanwhile, since this is the week of Beyonce, I leave you all with my mantra for the week:
Guess what? It's Friday!! And how sweet this Friday is! The sun is up, the birds are chirping (granted it was a tad colder than I expected), but today is a great day! And what better way to end the work week then to let it out and let it go!
HAPPIES:
1. ONE BILLION RISING - Remember I told y'all I filmed a small PSA for Safe Haven of Tarrant County? Well, here it is:
2. RUNNING - I have totally gotten back into running, as in outside, hitting the pavement, 4-5 miles of just the road, God and me. I feel so empowered after a good run. Find your passion and stick to it.
3. SLEEP - It has returned! My mind has finally turned off enough to let me sleep at night. Alas, hear the bells chime, the birds sing, enter angels.... ok , but seriously, its a joyous occasion indeed!
4. FEBRUARY - For two reasons, 1. short month and 2. reason to buy and eat decadent chocolate.
5. CAPTIVATING - As in the book, it is moving. It is a must read for every woman, no matter what stage of life; married or single, believer or not. I highly recommend.
CRAPPIES:
1. SLOW - I have been rather slow at work, which makes the days drag on and makes me bored and then I eat and then well, yeah its just one long downhill slide....
2. FEAR - Let it go people! I have been gripped by fear for so long. I was motivated by it, moved by it, let it control my actions. And fear of everything... present, past, future. Learning to let it go and listen to my voice has been freeing!
FDR (and well yeah spiders are just scary)
That's it! Finito! Done! Have a great Friday and glorious weekend!
It's Friday, I am at work (blah) so let's get this confesh sesh going. Link up with the lovely Leslie!
I confess...
I do not trust the barristas at Starbucks to put the proper splenda and cinnamon blend in my skinny latte.
I HATE the superbowl. I mean, these men get paid zillions to throw people around and then people spend millions for commercials that have, IMHO, gotten so stupid, to try and sell products to our fledgling economy. Donate the money to a better cause then advertising! Your commercial featuring (insert stupid celebrity here) does not entice me to buy your product.
I have guilt. About everything.
I miss my blonde hair and and it will be returning, Tuesday.
I'm scared to miss work when I'm sick for fear they will decide they do not need me and will fire me.
I did a PSA for Safe Haven of Tarrant County this week and cannot wait to share it with ya'll!
I bought a new shirt, i cost umm slightly less than one Benjamin, and I shrunk it last night.... and then I cried, not for the loss of the shirt, but for loss of the Benjamin.
Grey's Anatomy is killing me. Seriously, selling the hospital? WTF? And Lord, I cannot stand all the new whiny interns. I think the ship has sailed on this one for me.
I was watching Suits and I love me from Rachel Zane and I was like whoa she looks a little heavier, and then I was like whoa.... what am I doing? Girl is rocking and I just totally did what I hate that people do. Bad me!
I am not good at dealing with stress, and clearly my body is rebelling against me. Ladies, take care of yourselves!
