2012 in Review
As I sat down to write this I realized that this time last year I thought ,wow, 2012 cannot possibly be more busy and hectic than 2011... WRONG! Who knew being a baby lawyer would be, well so much work! (yeah yeah I know signed up for this). Highlights of this year include: moving offices, twice; going to Puerto Rico; getting my first clients; arguing my first hearing; authoring my first appellate brief; going to the 5th Circuit for oral argument; turning 30; lil sis graduating from law school and getting married!; having the best friends in the world and watching this little blog grow! Thank you to all of you who keep reading, commenting and have become a small piece of my daily routine. I look forward to so much more in the next year. Good times, bad times, y'all are always here! To my family and friends: Thank you for loving me, supporting me and standing by me no matter what! Here's to 2013 and its limitless possibilities.

Friday's Letters {to God}
In case you missed it or are not friends with me on Facebook (my personal one not the blog) then you may not have noticed that I have been quite the state of reflection this past week. I have been looking inward and analyzing my life. I guess its apropos at this time of year to stop and have a moment (or 5) of deep thought about where you went in this past year and where you want to go in the next one.
For me, it includes a lot of writing, soul-searching, and one-on-one time with God. Instead of silent prayers, I have found myself writing and then I realized I was writing to Him. It is yet another cathartic experience.Although I would love to share my inner thoughts with all of you, I decided instead I would share something my best friend shared with me. It makes you stop and realize that sometimes what we ask God for he gives us just not in the way we wanted. He knows us better; He gives us what we need, even when we don't ask. So, whatever holidays you celebrate, whatever faith you subscribe, take time during these last few days of 2012 and reflect. Take a self-inventory, set goals, vow to make a change for the better whether in your life or another's.

It's Ok Thursday
Hello world! I know I have been a little MIA since last week, I mean come on there was a small holiday snuck in there too! So, I'm back (actually i was back at work yesterday, no rest for the lawyer) and ready to dish!

It's OK.....
To dye your hair reddish brown and still be the Illegal Blonde... The blonde is still in me people!
To not be perfect at everything, or perfect at anything really.
To fail. Failing often brings more lessons than success.
To open your heart after hurt and pain.
To forgive. Forgiveness often heals the forgiver more than the person who receives your foregiveness.
That I still am not a huge fan of Christmas.
That I ate way too much the past four 2 days.... and feel no guilt (ok a little guilt)
To not like everything you got...
to have a tiny Christmas, the best things often come in small packages, right?
to celebrate the holidays with your family, even when you are not related to any of them, but you know no matter what they are there for you.
To be vulnerable.
To cry, its cathartic.
To start over. Life is too short to hold grudges, live with regret and be miserable.
That I am super stoked that 2012 has almost come to a close and a new year is upon us and looks so bright!
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2

The End of the World {as we know it}
Yeah yeah I know the world is still turning and that song is the cliche of the century today. So what did I do on my "last day on earth?" Well, I went drastic people, I'm talking waaaaay drastic!
After my hellacious morning yesterday.. if case you miss the post, it was baaad with a capital "aaad." I tried to get focused on work, but man my heart was pounding, and I think I was in full on panic attack mode. After a little chick fil-a chicken mini bisuit and some coffee, I was a little calmer and set down for a loonng day's work. I am knee deep in depo summaries, pretrial reports, discovery requests, discovery answers, trial prep..... I am on overload!
So.... back to my story.... I left the office a tad early for a little pampering, hey a girl's gotta work it in sometime. I headed to the salon! And here's where things get interesting. I knew I wanted a lil change, maybe a chocolate lowlight instead of caramel... And then I did it... I said nope, all over color! Natalie(the greates hair stylist ever) said... OK! We discussed shades, skin tones, etc.... and decided on something a little deeper in color. Alas, the Illegal Blonde is no more.... Say hello to the new me! How's that for the end of the world? Hope you all have a blessed Holiday!

I also participated in the Christmas Secret Santa Swap! I have not gotten my gift box yet, but looking forward to it! I also was a bad santa and work sucked, so the gorgeous Kaity at (Bee)autiful Blessings will be getting hers a tad late... opps! I am sorry. But please go check out kaity's blog! I love her free spirit and well just everything about her!

Restoring Hope
So I have sat here and started to type for a good 10 minutes. I guess there is no good way to start a post like this. To say this has been an interesting week would probably be an understatement. Our nation has witnessed more violence and outrage this year than I think it has since 9/11. We have watched as people have been gunned down on movies theatres, and now in an elementary school. The east coast saw flooding, and devastation, as did the mid-west and my home state of Texas. Homes have been lost, families put under immense pressure and sadly, lives lost. We pray. We unite in times of despair. We attempt to restore hope.
The worst part of all this devastation is that at times I found myself despondent and desensitized. I grew annoyed at the over load on facebook and twitter. I was angry at the over reporting and flat out wrong reports. I turned off the TV and social medial because I just couldn't hear anymore. I was ashamed of myself for what I thought was not caring. Then I realized I just couldn't take it. In my lifetime I feel like I have witnesses more horror and shock than most because of the heightened media outlets. There's not a second of the day that goes by that I cannot recount or find recounted by any variation of media outlets. Our society is barraged by constant communication and "news."
We have grown up with up-the-minute coverage of wars, tragedy, violence. I can witness anyone's fall from grace or rise to fame at a moment's notice and via Facebook, Twitter, Internet, TV all at once. I myself find myself communication with people on several interfaces at one time. It's no wonder we have such travesty plaguing out nation.
Children have learned that to be recognized and praised means garnering attention, I mean we sensationalize people like Lindsay Lohan, Justin Bieber, Paris Hilton... No one wants to grow up and be a doctor or teacher, they want to be famous as evidenced by the rise of Honey Boo Boo and Toddlers in Tiaras, heck even the Bachelor!
I wouldn't be shocked if an alien from another planet visited our planet and wanted to leave because of what they learned about our nation. If you watch TV or read or listen to the "news" we are seemingly self-absorbed, consumerists who show little to no compassion, worship materialistic things and have almost non-existent faith in something higher. We appear to value instant fame over hard work, handouts over education, labels over comforts, lust over true love.
We need to restore hope; stand back and rethink our values and principles; instill in our children those things that are truly important in life; and place an importance on faith, hope and love.
I challenge all of you to think about what is really important this Holiday season. Remember the reason for the season. God put on this earth our Lord to save us. What a miracle. However, if you are not Christian, and do not share my beliefs, still remember that there is more to Christmas and life for that matter than the material wants of our world. Step back and evaluate where you are and where you want to go and how you plan to get there. Someday you will be judged and I hope I will be looked at and admired not for what I had, but what I gave the world.

Weekend Update {Lazy Edition]
Yes, I finally had a lazy weekend, no work (well billable work), no parties, no must-dos! I kinda relaxed... So, what prey-tell did I do?... here ya go!
Friday: Firm Christmas party! I was in charge of the punch! I scoured recipes (ok so I emailed all the women I know and asked for input) and made an awesome yummy (sugar-infused) delight!
That night I had dinner with some friends and family and it was good! Great conversation was just what I needed to end the week.
Saturday: I woke up, worked out and then we hit the Town (Square) for our last minute shopping! Love me some Southlake Town Square! Then we headed to Dallas to see his sis and ate at R&D (yummo meatloaf) and had a Sprinkles cupcake for dessert (my first one) (sorry no picture I ate it too fast). The we saw Lincoln! Umm can we say Oscar? And so good! I was appalled that people walked out!
And because its almost Christmas, and I hate cheesy Christmas songs, I'm leaving you with this one:

Sunday: M jetted off to Canada so it was the pup and I! I baked! Gingerbread cookies to be exact! Not the men kind, but the soft yummy kind. Then I made turkey meatloaf and potatoes for dinner and topped it off with some Chardonnay, cause that goes with meatloaf, right?

Friday's Letters {Dear Santa Edition}
Dear Santa-
I'd be fibbing if I told you I had been good all year long (and we all know you can see for yourself); however, I was pretty good and that counts, right? So this year I'm only asking for a few things.
This year I want you to bring me patience to endure the trials next year will bring and forgiveness to heal the wounds left by last year. I pay you grant me peace to lay to rest any anger, guilt or grudges I still hold. I ask for you to bless F with a gorgeous ring to go with her wonderful man; to give K the confidence to see the phenomenal woman I see as my best friend; grant my brother the ability to continue to be a loving father even miles away; provide Mom with many more years of health (and through in some wealth; and shower V&D with my love so they know how much I truly appreciate them.
Send my friends in blogland a little piece of joy from my heart to theirs and let them know how much I love sharing my life with them. Give the love of my life the ability to see what I need out of life and grant him the power to see my life in its truest form. Show him kindness and humility (and Lord give him patience to endure me).
Santa, place in every one's stocking a little bit of love and kindness, wrap presents of compromise and humility and put it under the White House Christmas tree and send angels bearing joy throughout the world.
So, dear sweet Santa, I do not ask for much this year except that you bring good tidings and cheer to those I love and cherish, to those less fortunate than I, sweep the world with love and hope for better years to come and let us all have a joyous Christmas time.

It's Ok Thursday
Y'all should be so proud of me, I decided this week to keep a list of my lil confessions for the week... just sat it right there on my desk so I could catch all the lil thoughts that run through my head, so here are some good ones....
It's OK.....
It's OK.....
- to forget that not all people I speak with or deal with are clients
- to get excited when you look at the clock and its 10:13 and you smile cause 10/13 is your birthday (anyone else do this?)
- to steal cute meme's from P!nky and share them with your friends and they love them and make your day....
- to ask for a coloring book and markers for your stocking this Christmas
- to share dessert with your co-workers because you both want pie and cake
- to close your office door because you need space
and a good cry - to take it as a compliment when you boss tells you he appreciates that you keep your figure (darn right! I don't workout at 5am for nothing!)
- to make fun of yourself when you realize you have been a total drama queen
- to miss your best friend more than your husband sometimes....
- to not be ready for Christmas, but craving the New Year!
- to ask for depo summaries to do because they are good billable hours, then curse yourself because they are awfully boring
- to hate: doc review, doc production, marking hot docs, really anything involving documents!
- to eat
fourone thing from the copious gift baskets we have received each day - to feel closer to your blog friends than your real friends sometimes

I hate Christmas
There, I said it... I kind of hate Christmas. I know its blasphemy... Grinch-like and all. How dare I utter those words...
Truth is, Christmas was not one of those holidays that brought comfort and joy to my household. It was stressful and Santa just was, well lean... So I never developed this awe-inspiring need for Christmas. The lights, tree, blah blah blah... it just seemed so overrated and materialistic. Our first married Christmas, hubs forced me to buy a tree and stockings.... it was a wal-mart special with colored lights... Colored I said, hello Griswalds!
Now, its not all bad. I do love me some midnight Mass and tamales on Christmas Eve, I just guess I could do without all the decor. I mean, my MIL, yeah well its looks like Christmas threw-up in her house (and did I mention the woman is Jewish?). I just do not feel the need to have a Santa-infested home or a reindeer invasion...
I hoped that once I was married we would develop our own traditions, have things we did for the Holidays... But hasn't quite happened yet. We still drive to Ft Worth and spend it with our respective families. We travel from home-to-home eating and opening, conversing and cocktails (well at my fam we have the cocktails....). I feel like after Christmas I need a vacation from the holiday. I enjoy the family stuff, but I do long for the day I wake up in my own bed to a tree filled with presents for my own little ones. (working on that one may kill me though).
I admit we did get a nicer tree this year (thanks for the donation Mr. Big-Wig attorney), and white lights and some new adornments (hello Target!). I hung stocking from the chimney with care, but I know that come that fateful morning I will be propped up on the couch, crick in my neck and in need of... well Summer!
So, call me the Grinch, or Scrooge, but Christmas just seems like so much work for a holiday about our savior. Let's not forget the reason for the season. Tree and trimmings aside, its about being thankful for our many blessings and remembering family.

When Things Go Blah in the Night
Yeah, its one of those days. Ya know when you wake up with a case of the blahs. I hate to admit that I have nothing astounding going on in my life at the moment, unless you call work and the amount of it astounding.
My days revolve around the excitement of conference calls where I say more than my name, meetings with out firm's website designer, and copius writing assignments that involve research that bores me to tears or frustrates me to no end. It is the hustle and bustle of the pre-holiday rush of things that must be done by year's end, or resolving cases before the new year. It's finalizing divorces so people can start anew in 2013.
It's that time of the year when I'm either slammed or find myself pinning things and billing to case management... (I do not actually do that, well I pin but not bill for it). So, I apologize for the lack of an awe-inspiring post today. Today I give you my case of the blahs.
My clothes seems blah, my hair, well it has seen better days and is in desperate need of highlights and trim, so yeah... blah...My coffee, blah! I'd rather be sipping a peppermint mocha. My blog, today... blah. Here's to getting through today and focusing on tomorrow, or this weekend, did I mention I get to be with some people I love this weekend? Tootles for now and hope everyone else has more than a case of the blahs.

December?
So, I got up Saturday morning and put on shorts... yes people shorts... on December 1st! I went to the TCU game and wore a skirt! Skirt I tell you, and got a sunburn on my back. Now, even though my Horned Frogs lost, it was one heck of a game!
So, back to my lessthanhappy feelings about the heat in the dead of winter... I mean is it too much to ask for it to be at least less than 70 as I deck the hall and trim the tree? Come on Father Christmas... shed a lil winter weather my way! I also would like to be able to enjoy a hot peppermit mocha or salted caramel... HOT, not iced or frappacino... HOT as in warm me up because brrr baby its cold outside?
So the rest of my weekend? Work, work and some more work.... eh I knew it would catch up to me, but short week coming up for me, but lots of work in between! For now, I'll be wearing my Uggs in protest and praying for a lil cooler weather, I've got a closet fill of sweaters waiting to be worn!

Friday Confess Sesh!
I know the lovely Leslie is not linking up today for her normal session of confession, but I still need it...
I confess....
1. I have been a bad lawyer this week. I have been unmotivated and well tired. I need sleep and rest... Outlook not to good.
2. I am kind of scared for the TCU/OU game tomorrow... I would love a TCU win, on our home field... but ya never know what team will show up.
3. I have not made a Christmas list and do not really have one. I mean sure there are things I could come up with, but honestly I do not really want anything. World Peace anyone?
4. I learned its ok to screw up as long as you learn from it and don't screw up again.
5. I forget to write all of the people who comment on my blog back... a lot... I'm busy at work and I read ALL you comment, but sometimes I just do not have enough hours to respond, so for those of you who came from Messy Dirty Hair... thanks!!! I loved your comments and love!
6. I organized all the files I am working on right now and may have billed for it... I mean case management is legit right?
7. Lawyers do not know the answers to lots of things, but we are hella good at researching it!
8. I did not have much to confess this week and I could not think of much else to blog about, but yet I blogged anyway... rough week... I blame the days off next week for this week being too long...

to not eat any turkey on Thanksgiving... but copious amounts of pie
that my Christmas tree is still sitting in its box in the middle of the living room
to shop on Black Friday and not buy a thing (the people watching was much more fun)
to eat one small piece of chocolate every day once in while
to blog at work, in bed, on the go... ya get my drift
that I don't know what to ask for for Christmas because I kind of went on a Loft binge a couple weeks ago... but then again the LV catalog came today and Coach now monograms!
I have barely billed this month and don't feel guilty I deserve a small break!
that I am baby crazy and my husband is about to kill me
that I got in bed about 8pm last night so I could blog and watch Nashville (so what if I'm old and boring)
that I think the ipad mini is just stupid
to not care about your toes when you wear tights and heels everyday, right?
to get annoyed when the housekeeper moves my stuff...
to vent, in the car, to know one and look like a crazy lady yelling
to forget you promised to do something but then do it last minute and it turn out great!
to be so ready for a great out of town weekend soon! (close far doesn't matter its a small reprieve from life with friends)

True Life
I am addicted to mindless TV. Ashamed, I know. Highly educated woman who loves Lifetime movies, Gossip Girl, and Grey's! It's the pointless plots, the cheesy script the idiotic twists & turns! I love it! Its mindless, simple, no stress all rolled into a neat 30 or 60 minute package.
It's my escape, my diversion from life. I can become a NYC socialite or a a trashy romance thriller all from the comfort of my home. Yes, ladies, I just love me some "crap" tv as D calls it.
For instance, GG: yes I know how teen, how stupid, but then when SPOILER ALERT Dan gets the call from Georgina and says he is "writing the Serena chapter" I was hooked for another week! I mean come on, how can you not want to see what Lonely Boy has up his devious sleeve.
And let's take Two Broke Girls; Lord I love it! Its crude, obvious humor, but man it just takes away the stress. At no point do I feel the need to write an MSJ or object to anything. Its just funny good stuff going on. Now it does get me that Caroline has IMHO awful hair. Lord get get of the bangs! Max: she is just the person I think I am sometimes, blunt, brutal, honest to a fault.
And I know this is not current, but Friends. Ya know, I can come up with an episode for almost every situation in life. Like last night, the infamous Monica describing the 7 pleasure spots of a woman to Chandler, I can quote it to a T and fit the moment of the convo (yes I know I had a conversation about the g-spot with a friend, a guy no less).
Well, ya get my point. I work long hours, I am stressed to the max, but I am not beneath mindless chatter to relax (or a good glass of champagne and a massage, if anyone wants to send me those!).
Happy TV all!

Tumultuous Love
First, y'all need to stop on by Ms. Messy Dirty Hair herself! I'm featured on her blog, and well I'm giving away some good stuff!
So, I watched the train-wreck AKA Lindsay Lohan in Liz&Dick. I admit, she fit this role... to a "T." Though I admit her playing an older Liz was a bit odd seeing as that she is all of 26 and has had little life experience, especially in love. However, it got me thinking about Love, again yeah I know I'm all about the Love of late.
My thought was is it possible to have a tumultuous love like Liz & Dick? Can two people really have a relationship, a marriage that is good and strong with so much anger? I know all couples have their ups and downs, but is it possible to have a love like Liz & Dick?
Is that a marriage? Is marriage all-encompassing love where you almost love someone so much it hurts, or is it a love so pure you cannot exist with your partner? Does everyone only have one true love? Or can you have the kind of love you have with your spouse more than once? Is it about timing or about actually finding the one person God has picked out for you.
Is love like Liz & Dick? The kind where you cannot live with them and you cannot live without them?
Now I need to vent for a hot minute about Ms. Lohan... I mean the interview she does on Lifetime in the previews for the movie... Lord help me! She apparently "relates" to Elizabeth Taylor with the media and the blah blah blah... GET YOUT SH!T TOGETHER!!! You had everything and you chose to screw up. No one forced you to steal, or drink and drive, or go to rehab! And let's not mention Ms. Taylor had a HUGE career, not a teen fluke who has piddled away her talent!
And.... done. Have a lovely Tuesday y'all.

Weekend Update
Oh what a weekend it was! Food, family, football! I love me some Thanksgiving.
Thursday started with brunch with "adopted" family. Yummy buffet of waffles, seafood, turkey, and dessert! Then on to meal 2 at the in-laws... (Ok so I didn't eat this one, but I saw the food... counts right?). Then FOOTBALL!!!!! Can we talk about my Frogs kicking some UT butt! Go Frogs! It was a great day to be thankful to be a Horned Frog!
Friday was pageant and parading. I did a lil Black Friday shopping, but not the get up all crazy early thing. It was more a leisurely stroll through Grapevine Mills and some Chick-fil-a. Perfect way to start a Friday after Thanksgiving. Then on the Fort Worth Parade of Lights! My girls looked great and we bared the cold to ring in the Holiday season ( i sat warmly in the front seat with the heat on and the butt warmer burning).
Saturday was more pageanting. I had the privilege to judge Miss Duncanville (shout-out to my hometown!). The ladies were great! We had two wonderful winners and I got to see my bestie.
Sunday was a little more BFF time and Rockettes! We ventured to Grand Prairie to see the Christmas Spectacular! Those legs can move people!
All in all it was a whirlwind of activity, but I'm kind of glad for a few more weeks til Christmas. But can I say, Texas get with the program, 80 tomorrow? Come one! Lord, I may never see a white Christmas at this rate.
Hope everyone had a fabulous holiday and get ready for the season of lights, giving, and feasting! Welcome Christmas. ( I say this as hubs is currently getting the decor out of the attic.... I type he moves, you all know how this works).

LOVE
I know what love is. I have experienced its power: the passion, the raw emotion, the bond two people share.
I know what its like to walk blindly into Love's trap. To be headed left, when suddenly it steers you right.
I have left it up to God to put me in the hand's of someone who be right behind me no matter what.
Love hits you when you least expect it. Its blinds you, leaves you breathless and asking for more. It is steadfast and its power is awesome beyond words. Its overcomes all odds and defies gravity.

Giving Thanks
I love Thanksgiving. I had this conversationMonday with a lady who was getting ready at the gym along with me. It's perhaps my second favorite holiday, right behind Halloween.
Think about it: a holiday all about the food. No decor, no presents, no pageants, plays, choirs, hub bub, just food. Tons of it. Rows and tables and buffets galore! It's football, naps and feasting. It's family togetherness without the fuss. So give thanks today for the many blessings the Lord has afforded you. Feats at his table and rejoice in all His glory.

My Life as a {MultiView}Wife
I try not to talk about Hubs a lot on here, well other than when I bitch whine and complain brag about him. ( I kid). Well, when I first started blogging he was not keen on the idea. I mean why on earth would I want to write about my personal life and who on earth would want to read about it? He doesn't know us very well does he ladies? He was skeptical of things I wrote, and preferred not to be named, mentioned or photographed.
Well, funny how things come around. My husband's work is a digital media firm called MultiView (come on how does not he not get blogging?) Just so happens the wife of one of his co-workers loves my blog (Hello Annie!) and low and behold, I was asked to guest blog for them! So, what do I the lawyer have to blog about... being a wife!
Hubs works for this pretty awesome company. Casual atmosphere, motivated and creative people... If my office were more like this I might be motivated a little more (just saying if you let me blare music and wear jeans Id be ok with it). So, without further ado, head on over to see what its like for me to be a "MultiView" Wife.

Best Friends
I am blessed. I have three best friends. They fit each of my three personalities.
I've got my best friend since I was 12. We can go month without seeing or taking to each other, yet its like we never parted. She knows me in and out.
I have my best friend from law school. We shared perhaps the toughest three yearsa of our lives and lived to tell about it. She gets me through work and life. She knocks sense into me when I need knocking.
I have my lovely! My beauty queen. She is my rock. She makes me laugh and always has a way of knowing how to cheer me up.
Blessed.

Monday Monday Monday
Yeah I've got a HUGE case of the Mondays!
Perhaps its knowing this is a short week, or that come Thursday I will be stuffing myself with turkey and pie, but I'm not motivated. or maybe it was the depo summary from HE double hockey sticks or the MSJ I need to finish.
Then I thought, maybe it was the lack of sleep from the road trip you took with your bestie to Oklahoma to see another girlfriend rock the stage at Miss Oklahoma USA!
Then we hightailed back across the state line for a full day of pageant training for our girls. Needles to say by the time I got home all I wanted was to lay in a bubble bath and sleep.
5am came way too early today...
