And with that, another weekend is in the history books. Can't say it was exciting or memorable. It consisted of mostly, work and some cleaning. My house is getting the total spring cleaning makeover people.
Its amazing how much stuff one can amass in such a short time. I closed on my house back in July. Yes, just 9 months ago. At the time, I just wanted to get stuff moved and be "settled." I didn't bother going through a lot of things, and honestly I wasn't ready to at the time. It was too raw, too emotion and still so real to me. So, I just boxed up my previous life because it was easier. I always knew I would need to eventually clean it all out, but July was not the time.
But, now its spring. Time to begin anew, and so I cleaned. Ok, so not technically cleaned, but more threw a ton of "stuff" away. I went through my closet, shoes, pictures, plastic tubs full of stuff from college. Why was it that I was holding onto this or that. Was it because it meant something to me, or because somehow if I kept it, then I might get it all back. Those shoes, do I really like them? Does that skirt really fit? ( I mean, come on, am I really going to go back to 113 pounds overnight? do I really want to?) It was cathartic, emotional, but good.
But let me tell you people, the best part, was watching people literally take my trash from the curb was I was putting it out there. Overnight, someone took the wooden pallets, and Sophie's old dog gate. Two broken lamps, old law books, a dirty rug, old twirling trophies, broken vacuum.... yeah you get my drift. each time I would take something else to the curb, more of the junk disappeared. Eh, one person's junk, is another one's treasure.
The girls loved playing outside and were pooped after the day.\
So, after a day of cleaning and trashing throwing away, I needed some Tex-Mex. We headed downtown to the new Taco Diner I was so excited because I love Mi Cocina and this is one of its sister restaurants. Thoroughly disappointed in its Fajita Salad. It consisted of what appeared to be bagged salad mix, over cooked dry chicken and pre-packaged shredded cheese. So sad. The ceviche was pretty good, with its pineapple and jicama, but overall, I was hoping for a good spot for a salad for lunch and this was not it.
So, here's to Monday and another week. So excited though because Friday I leave for my annual Girls' Trip to The Texas Hill Country! I need this like none other. Happy Monday ya'll!
Sometimes a good sort and purge will do your life WONDERS! I'm actually looking forward to the same process in the upcoming weeks before we move. I'm glad you found the time and strength to go through the "past" so that you can move forward with your future! Nice work :)
ReplyDeleteI am a huge fan of getting rid of things every so often! B and I have been doing a lot of that lately as we prepare to move, and each time a bag of items leaves our house for Goodwill, I always feel so much lighter. We still have a lot of stuff, but we're getting to a place in which the things we have are either things we need or things we love, and that's our goal! No more junk:) Hope this week goes quickly for you so you can enjoy a much needed girls weekend. Sounds like such fun!:)
ReplyDeleteSounds like the weekend you totally needed. Getting rid of things is always nice, not having clutter makes me feel so much better too.
ReplyDeleteWOOHOO for girls weekend coming up, I know you'll have fun.
I so need to do this! Also, you give away law books?? I keep them all even old editions. I may have a book hoarding problem!
ReplyDeleteI have held on to one pair of jeans that I loved throughout college in the hopes that I'll fit into them one day...but in reality, I need to give them to Goodwill or something. That is just not happening haha. My metabolism has completely changed since college.
ReplyDeleteI'm moving next weekend so i've made plenty of trips to Goodwill this weekend minus the clothes that go to my church. It does feel good to get rid of crap we dont need! I love everything about Hill Country! Have a blast.
ReplyDeletecleaning like that always feels so good after you put the time in!!! cheers to a clean spring
ReplyDeleteI love getting rid of stuff, but I also love free curb stuff. I have to limit myself or I will pick up anything lol.
