The Madness

And today, it is over. March Madness that is. Did anyone notice that its technically April? Like April 8? I get, it, it takes time to play an entire tournament that begins with 64 teams, but its March Madness.... not April. NCAA, I'm going to need you to start this shindig a lil earlier next year so as to not have March Madness run into the glory that is opening day in April.

OK, so maybe its because I live in Fort Worth and have endured the closed streets, backed up highways and could not get anywhere in the DFW Metroplex in the last week. Now, don't mark me as a basketball hater, I love me some college sports: the fans, the rivalries, the bracket challenge, the Cinderella story, come from behind, no one expected UConn and Kentucky to be in the Final, glory that is college basketball. But April, well its reserved for all things Opening Day and the triumph return of baseball.

Maybe I am a little miffed because Duke betrayed me and well ruined my hopes and dreams of winning the Office Bracket, or maybe its because I went to a school that most people may not know even has a basketball team, or perhaps its the torrential downpour that plagued DFW and kinda killed the glorious broadcasting from my beloved Sundance Square, but I have bid a fond ado to March Madness eventhoughitstechnicallyApril and announce its time for America's pasttime! So get it in gear Rangers and Let's Play Ball!

5 on Friday

It's Friday! Its supposed to be 80 here today and well this week managed to turn out alright! Like...

1. March Madness - This is the first year in forever I am not a basketball widow. Yup! Nope man has deserted me for Vegas to watch copious hours of basketball in a smoky casino sports book with his BFF. Nope, I filled out my bracket, by myself, (not that Ohio St. or Cincinnati did me much help) and I don't plan on watching one solitary moment of basketball!

2. I came home to these babies on my doorstep! Made my little heart so happy. What is better than flowers? Flowers from one of your BOFF!

 3. Lattes, when I can make them from the comfort of the Keurig in our office kitchen.... I love the Gevalia mocha lattes!
ignore that my mousepad is nasty we had a coffee incident
4. SPRING! As in its finally looking like its lovely face will stay for more than 24 hours! Rain, shine, as long as its above 32!

5. Food! Yup, its amazing. This is perhaps the first time since hmm 2006 that I have just not worried so much about food. Yes, I watch what I eat, and only indulge when it matters, but I do not count every calorie, look at every fat gram, weigh myself 3-4 times a day, and oh I eat! Like 6 times a day. Its freeing to not see food as the enemy anymore! I let myself splurge every once and while, don't shame run 4 miles when I eat bread or dessert.... Who knew life could be so good and I would actually look better than I did 10 pounds ago!

Sports Widow

It's that time again ladies: March Madness. Husbands disappear from after dinner dish duty, the trash will magically walk itsself to the curb, and every question you pose gets the same garbled answer: "ah yeah sure." You become a sports widow.

Though I have only been married for a little over a year, I knew this was coming. After you date someone for 5 years you tend to see a pattern. August - early January and mid-March are those sad times when your man is MIA, and he can be found in front of a TV... for hours! In the past I have tried to fight this syndrome they have, one year I even gasp ... suggested he DVR a game (you would have though I asked him to get a vasectomy!)

So this year ladies I vow not to fight it. I will embrace widowness for a few short weeks this month and use it to focus on myself. Uninterrupted naps, running the dishwasher, and long runs! I will enjoy the break from the hubs while he takes in endless hours of basketball because I mean how often do I get to shop and have no one asking me why, or how much? ~The Illegal Blonde

P.S. For you ladies that say you love basketball... you are probably not married because believe me at one time I "liked" it too.
